    Hey guys,

I posted this a few days ago on my Soundcloud page. This is some music I did for a comedy/fantasy TV show pilot. Probably one of the greatest music briefs I've ever had. "We want really epic music for the scene's where we're doing the most mundane things!" .. (Like trying to invade a supermarket as it's closing in order to buy a packed lunch they promised a little girl!). And it really does help make the comedy work.

So there's 3 tracks .. and all use mostly VSL. The dimension strings REALLY came into their own on this thing and sound so real it's just awsome.

I really need to buy me the Dimension Brass at some point. Well who knows .. if these guys get their series and I'm invited to be the composer then who know's eh! Enjoy the music .. or ignore at your leisure 😄

  • Hetoreyn - that sounds great - it seems perfect for that production.   If this series is well done it could be very good as that is a funny and interesting idea to develope.   Also, gives you lots of musical opportunities!

  • As usual, Hetoreyn, an excellent sound and balance from you. I especially like the constantly changing harmonic landscape, and the string and wind flourishes. (Any tips on how to do those, by the way?).

Good luck, and let us know how the project goes.

  • Nice compositions and production. Good luck on the brief.

Glad you liked it man, It's an interesting film which is what I think makes the music so interesting. Yeah those flourishes are a pain in the ass :P .. I've been trying for years to figure out how John williams, or Jerry Goldsmith do those crazy sounding glissando's on the string section. Basically it's just disecting the notes until you come up with a formula for a fast repetition climb through a scale. I guess it's using a half step climb but doing it slowly enough that you take a long time to get through a whole scale. Very difficult to describe it :P .. Perhaps I'll preapre a tutorial topic on this and see if the VSL guys would post it along with the music tracks.

The Flute flourishes were pretty much a rip off of James Horners technique from Aliens. Love him or hate him .. but you gotta love those very piercing flute explsions. Those were done by mixing piccolo and concert flute and very carefully picking out descending notes that sounded atonal but not completely out of tune with everthing else. Again I'll try to make a tutorial template (it'll have to be logic I'm afraid :P).

Was really fun doing this score and I really hope these guys get their TV show .. I'd so love to do more of this music on a much bigger scale.
