  • Can't Get VE Pro to show more than 8 MIDI Ports in Cubase 7.5.2 -- SOLVED

I've recently rebuilt my main DAW. Cubase 7.5.2 is on the main DAW, and I have a slave running VE Pro. On the slave I have VE Pro connections settings for 32 MIDI ports, 32 Audio INS and 32 Audio OUTS. When opening a previous Cubase project Cubase tells me I have unmapped midi Ports. Where previously (before rebuilding) I had 16 MIDI OUTS in Cubase, now it's only show 8 for the instance of VE Pro, and it's showing 9-16 as missing.

Also, when I connect to VE Pro from Cubase, I'm getting two instance of VE Pro available (see Pic).

Anyone have an idea as to why I'm not seeing 16 MIDI OUTS in Cubase? Could it have something to do with the two instances of VE Pro?

Thanks for any and all help!

  • Sorry folks. User error [:$] I forgot that you also have to set the MIDI Preferences for the master machine, too.

    Mea culpa,

  • Hi, I have this exact same problem regarding available ports in Cubase.

Using a copy of the identical Cubase Elements 8 project file moved to the master computer,  available VEPro ports are reduced from 16 to 8, while VEPro prefs still show 16.

I can't find the relevant Cubase preference or project settings. I do have a vague memory of having seen such a setting somewhere....but where?

I've posted on the Steinberg forum where a user had the same issue but no solution is posted.

    Thanks for any help,

    Jenny

  • Update - Solved for me too, at last.

The Settings for how many MIDI ports (each?) instance should have are visible when you click on the cog-wheel icon in the top right hand corner of the Vienna Ensemble instance connection window in Cubase.

The number can be changed only by typing on the number itself - the up-down arrows to the right of the numbers don't work, at least not in my version of Cubase Elements 8.

Hope this helps someone else someday. It was helpful to me to see the OP encountered the same issue, and solved it with a settings change in Cubase.
