  • Another Slave Computer Question - Mac Minis

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking at getting/making a slave computer to run VE Pro. While I'm considering a PC, my life long use of macs makes me a bit PC-phobic, but I'm looking in to that. But I am considering mac minis. The problem with Mac Minis is the fairly limited 16BG of RAM.

    My question is:

Which would be better for running VE Pro on a slave machine:

ONE Mac Mini with TWO SSDs and 16BG of RAM

    or

TWO Mac Minis with one SSD each, 16GB of RAM x2 and therefore totalling 32GB of ram, 16 allocated to each computer, or two insances of VE Pro.

Would the latter be better? Are there any problems running TWO slave machines in VE Pro?
I'd really appreciate your expertise so that I get the right thing. I would consider buying just one Mac Pro with one SSD for now, then I could get another one later when I need it.

    Thanks so much!

    Joe.

  • GIven that choice I would go with 2; I believe distributing to cores is more optimal through the second instance/a second machine, and chances are good you're going to need that RAM.

  • If you think of using MIR with solution two you will need to buy one license of MIR per computer

  • Question.. Re mac mini's Im looking at the mac mini server 2011 model it seems to take more ram and has a quadcore. What in order does vepro with many play instances going to use up first. which order of importance?

     RAM, HD speed, CPU cores

Also is it better or beneficial to for example put 18 play plugins in one instance or split them out 9 in 2 instances.  I am so far been limiting them to 9 plugins with 9 instruments because of the track limits inside of play 1-18 audio outs. Also was thinking that having smaller instances might be easier to move them aroudn server wise to load balance... Thoughts?
