  • My First Solo Violin Piece...

Below is my first solo violin piece. I decided to do a Byzantine hymn "Agni Parthene". Let me know what you guys think, and of any improvements I can make. The articulations I used was performance detache, and performance legato most of the time. Had I used regular detache patches the piece would sound very different. Not sure I fully understand the difference between performance detache and detache...

    Cheers,

    -Nektarios

  • Well done. I would smoothen the attack and optimize the legato here and there, but this in overall is a nicely done production.

Which reverb did you use? (Is it algorithmic or an IR of an existing venue - it suggests a very large space with low absorption/high reflectivity, like a larger church or cathedral, which is very suited to the character of the piece).

  • Thank you! Really appreciate the feedback. How would you optimize the legato? And how would you smoothen the attack? Using more perf legato? Or would you use time stretching?

The reverb I used is MIR with venue: Konzerthaus - Grosser Saal (Great Hall). I also added on top of it the algorithmic reverb MIRacle for the reverb tail. I basically followed the instructions on the MIRacle patch on what settings to change in Grosser Saal to combine the two reverbs.

    Thank you!

    -N.

I made some adjustments/corrections. Here is the newer version:

Not sure if this is better or the first one. I also made this a bit slower to be more in line with the original tempo of the melody.

Time stretching is (imho) very impractical for that purpose 😊

Atk, Rel and (if you have VI PRO) Start Offset parameters are key to legato optimization. Wise use of perf-legato patches can also be very helpful.

  •  Ok, I see now! Thank you so much for the info! Will give it a another shot, and also remove the stretching I did on the second revision. So many things to consider! [8-|]

  • Nektarios. Very attractive music and performance...

  •  Thank you! I am still not fully satisfied. Will make another attempt at it to improve it.

  • I attempted making a Chamber String version as well. Let me know of any improvements I can make. Thank you!
