  • Using VE Pro Server on a Mac Pro 1,1 2.66Ghz 2006 (Vienna Key/64Bit/Will it work?)

    Hi everyone,

I've bought an old Mac Pro that I want to use VE Pro with, as a slave. It's a model 1,1, 2.66Ghz from 2006. I'm trying to install VE Pro, which installs okay, but I can't get the Vienna Key to work.

    - I tried installing E-Lisencer but it says I need to upgrade my OS to Lion. Right now I'm running 10.6.8 now. Does that mean I won't be able to ever un VE Pro on this Mac unless I somehow work out how to upgrade the OS?

    - I've also been told that Mac Pro 1,1 won't work in 64 bit anyway ... is that true?

    - So, overall, will this computer work? Have I made a big mistake here and bought a computer I can't use as a slave for VE Pro?

Would really appreicate your help here!

    Thanks.

  • Hi Guys, so I actually worked it out - just needed an older installer of the ELisencing software!
and it seems VE Pro works fine even though my machine is only 32bit.

But I'm confused - I want to upgrade my computer to 32GB ram - will it actually use all of the Ram if only a 32bit machine?

    Thanks!

  • I believe that a 32-bit application is limited to 4GB of memory. So it depends on how many applications you plan having open and using and how much memory each of those applications is going to use. The system will also take some of the memory. This Mac has eight slots and you need to add the modules in pairs. So maybe try filling the first two slots with 4GB DIMMs for eight GB total memory. When running your Mac Pro use Apple's Activity Monitor utility to see how much your Mac Pro is using. Add more DIMMs in pairs if needed until there is always some free memory that is being shown in the Activity Monitor.
