After mocking up the introduction to Rimsky-Korsakov's "Cappricio Espagnol", I wanted to apply some of the orchestration tricks I picked up to my own piece. So as not to bore you with the whole thing, here's just the first statement of the main theme:

    The March of the Minions

I'm looking for any advice on mixing and balance: I've been trying to really hone my reverb skills, and I can't tell if this sound is too wet/dry, or maybe too close. Any suggestions would be most helpful!

  • The VSL "Soloists" are recorded in MIR-Teldec-Venue.

  • This is a great job using VSL instrumentation. The mix/balance is perfect for this piece. My personal taste if just a bit more reverb but reverb is such a personal thing (you may want the piece to sound like it's recorded in a studio, I might envision it played in a concert hall, etc.). Stick to what sounds correct to your ear.

But just as important, I think the composition is excellent. I'm really impressed with your work. I sincerely encourage you to complete this work: I was wanting to listen to more of it!
