  • Vienna Ensemble network capacity

I'm transitioning my MIDI orchestra to Vienna, and with Dimension Strings I don't have nearly enough RAM on my workstation (12GB). So my plan is to add a server with a big SSD and 32GB RAM. Is it reasonable to expect low latency from Vienna Ensemble when the majority of sounds are on another machine? I'm not using it for live performances, so initial delays are not a problem. Has anyone found limitations with this kind of setup? Thanks for your help.

  • Hello Byron,

Performance still depends on the CPUs of both computers, thereĀ“s still quite some data sent on LAN. E.g., the more audio channels you want to route back, the more the CPU of both computers will be challenged.

All in all, the latency will be the same as you have it on your existing setup: The latency of the soundcard + the added buffers in the VE PRO Server Interface.

To take advantage of the SSD drives, you will also need VI PRO (I see that you have tested VI PRO and VE PRO with a demo license already).

    Best,

    Paul
