  • My strings are horribly out of tune. What am I doing wrong?

After taking a hiatus and buying a new computer, I installed my Vienna SE and am working on my template in Logic Pro X. For the most part everything (winds/brass) sounds good, but the sustained and legato strings are out of tune to the point of being unusable. I don't recall this being an issue when I used the Special Edition on my old computer, so I'm not pointing a finger at the library itself. Is there anything in the settings (Logic or Vienna Ensemble) that I might be overlooking?

I've tried building simple triads, or slow unison scales, and it sounds horribly, laughably, bad. I'll try to attach a file of legato cello and sustain bassoon playing a simple melody in unison as an example. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

Ouch, sounds quite horrible. I have loaded different combinations of legato and sustain bassoons and strings from Special Edition, none of which got a tuning problem. Are you by any chance using VI Pro? Perhaps it's the humanize settings that causing the strings to be out of tune? If not, could you be more specific as to what patches are loaded?

    Kind regards

    Niklas

  • It's really nasty. Never had something like that happen here.

I'd say there's more to that than just pitch. No idea what it could be, but I assume it's not in the samples, but on the audio side of things. It almost sounds like a bit crushing effect. What are your project's, and your audio interface's bit and sample rate settings? Are the buffer settings in the DAW and the interface in a reasonable range?

Also: does it happen when you turn off whatever reverb you're using?
