Heya all,

It's been a while since i been here. I have been working on remaking the way i do orchestral music with my VSL and used for my "tests" the imperial march. I tried to make it sound at realistic as possibe. Here what i did. ImperialMarch

I also tested Mir on this and i really love it and will buy it when i can afford it!

From what i did i believe the brass section is the one sounding the less realistic. It's far to be close to what Jay Bacal made but i guess it's not to bad with only the special edition.

Feel free to give me your feedback and how i could improve the realism of my brass. When i listen to jay Bacal, it make me feel like we don't have the same kind of sample lol.

Thanks to have take the time to read and listen to me!

Ahoy, GillesCostard!

Ah, John Williams... always a gold standard for testing effectiveness of MIDI, because it's so unforgiving. Anyhow, I very much like the balance of your piece, and your big percussion hits on cymbal and bass drum really fill the space and sound great. My main suggestions for possible polish areas would be in the opening figures from the French Horns and such: right now, they sound very dry and cramped to me, as if they were playing through radio speaker far away. Maybe pan the horns wider and give them a longer reverb tail? Once the main theme comes in, I don't really have any suggestions on the brass, though.

If you want to repay the favor, I'm looking for feedback on my first minute of Vaughan-Williams (in this same forum).
