  • To MultiPort or not to MultiPort?

I just got a new 2013 Mac Pro for a (somewhat) mobile writing rig, and since my main setup has been stable for some years I'm finding myself back with some rudimentary setup questions.

My template has >35 VEP Instances inside one server, totaling about 32gb RAM (machine has 64gb), and I'm wondering if I'd be better off trying to set up the Multiport, or keeping everything separate as before.

Other questions include whether, where & how to assign multi-threading/multi processor usage between Logic, K5 and VEP. I realize I'm trying to get this machine to do the work of three older Mac Pros, so I may be asking too much, but I'd like to make sure I'm getting the most out of it I can.

It's the 12core 2.7 Xeon E5 machine, Logic 10.0.7, Yosemite 10.10.1. Audio interface is a UAD Apollo Twin.

    Thanks for any input.

  • FYI,

Multiport just got a lot better with the Logic Pro X 10.1 update. Apple has increased the buffer size for VEPro plugins, which takes care of previous issues with hanging and dropped notes.
