  • Using MIRx as post-mix reverb

I'm setting up two machines to run VE Pro, and for quick demos it would be nice to add MIRx reverb on the master only, after all channels from both machines have all been mixed. The goals would be (1) to minimize CPU overhead, and (2) avoid the cost of a second MIRx license until I need a polished demo. Is this possible? Thanks for your help.

  • No it's not possible. MIRx is not a plug in. It works inside of VI or VI Pro and is applied to individual VSL instruments.

  • Hi Byron,

the answer Michael gave you is correct: MIRx is not a plugin, it will work only within Vienna Instruments player, with individual instruments or ensembles. For the application you're after you'd better use a conventional reverb plugin in any case (try Vienna Suite's Convolution Reverb with the "Small Soundstage Clear" factory preset that comes as demo from Numerical Sound, for example).

This might be a good occasion to outline the main idea of all MIR-based products again: MIR is _not_ about artificial "reverb", but about the specific acoustic characteristics which a single signal source will emanate from a certain position in a certain room, perceived by a chosen combination of (virtual) main and spot microphones. Reverb _can_ be part of the result, but MIR is much more about the spatial relation (and interaction) of these individual signal sources with each other as well as with the room they are put into.

    Kind regards,
