In general, do people find it better to run fewer instances of VE Pro (each populated more heavily with VI Pro / Kontakt), or more instances of VE Pro with each populated more lightly?
At the moment, on one slave, I am running 2 instances of VE Pro, each loaded up with about 50 instruments (between VI Pro and Kontakt). I don’t have any problems except for a quite long initial loading time.

As for me, I suspect there is a point where one would notice. I typically use 2-5 instances.
I put things which use more CPU in an instance where I assign more 'threads per instance' to it, so at least 'on paper' this extra instance is performing better. I believe it from the evidence as well. I don't find that say 3 instances of the same type of plugins is a meaningful drop in performance on my system.
