  • How can I adjust the pitch wheel range in VI Pro5?

This command has been changed since the previous version, if I'm not mistaken. Currently it is set for a single whole stem but I need it to be an octave.

  • Hello mwatters525,

The Pitch Range was alwas 1 wholetone up and down (200 cents) in Vienna Instruments, all higher values will make each sample sound very artificial.

  • Dispite the quality aspect here, can you add the feature to pitch up to 1200 cents, just in case an artificial sound is wanted? The pitch range numbers could maybe turn red to warn that it wont sound realistic but I don't see why it shouldn't be possible at all. Sometimes I have used audio pitch shifters to get what I want, but they use more cpu than VI would do.

  • Hi Martinz,

Everything is possible, but I don´t think it´s likely that we will increase the pitch range.

  • Hi Paul,

    may I ask why?

  • Well, I don't know why being dogmatic about it would trump what is useful to the customer.
For one thing the Overdrive Guitar being restricted to a whole tone +/- is unidiomatic.
And I do not really know that eg., three semitones is more 'artificial' than two for every case.
It's meaningless for the Overdrive Guitar.

I get it, I mean for normal usage very much pitch bend is going to be noticable and IMO a whole tone is a lot.
Two semitones as a limit seem arbitrary and traditional/convenient rather than a real argument.

  • Yep, I would say that a limit of something that could be teoretically infinite should be a guide, not a cap to avoid unwanted use. Increasing the freedom for users to do what they want… I see no reason why not.

  • I'm bumping this.

  • Also would like to bump this. As someone who composes strictly in sibelius, increasing the pitch bend to at least an octave would help so much with glisses. It takes too much time to work with the gliss samples and time stretch them properly every time (though having them as an option is fantastic!). It is much easier just to tell sibelius to do a pitch bend via the gliss line, and it works every time without extra tinkering.

It might not sound as good, but it should be my choice as the customer, right? I don't see why limiting features is a good thing. So far, this is one of my only complaints with VI Pro.

Would love if Andi, Paul or someone could give some insight into this :)

  • Although I've never tried it but I though you could create your own custom Glissando runs in the VI Pro sequencer.

There should be a tutorial video about it somewhere on this site.

  • Thanks! I will look into it.

However, it seems a bit pointless to need to make a custom gliss every time in the sequencer then going through the necessary work of creating a new custom soundset in sibelius. Although, it is great to have the option and that is part of what I love about VSL. It is very flexible and there is so much you can do! That being said, the whole tone pitch bend limit seems a bit arbitrary to me, and having it higher as most other VST's do would save a lot of time for many users. And it is also useful for users who simply like the effect.

Anyways, Happy Holidays to all on the forums! Maybe when everyone returns to work after the new year, we could get an increased pitch bend range as a late christmas present ;)

  • Hi,

With the built-in interpolation we are using in VI/VI PRO, the results you'd get with higher pitch ranges are not good enough, so we restricted it to the current range.

I'm afraid there are no plans to change this in the near future.
