  • Vienna Imperial as Plugin/Au-Instrument in Logic Pro X

    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help with a small problem I've got. Maybe the solution is simple, but I just have no idea how this works.

I recently downloaded my Vienna Imperial Library and installed the contents. Everything works, I can use the Standalone version without any problems. However I don't now how to use it as a Plugin/AU-Instrument. Are there .vst and .component files somewhere? It does not appear in my Logic Pro X list of AU-Instruments...

So my question basically is: How can I use the Vienna Imperial as a plugin in Logic Pro X?

Thank you for any hints ;)

  • It should be there under Intruments/Au Intruments/VSL.

    If not try reinstalling or

open the plugin manager to see if its there and successfully validated.

If not validated try reset and rescan selection.

    Hpe this will help

  • Hi André,

Standard installation location for A//VST plug-ins on OS X is /Library/Audio/plug-ins directly on your system drive.

This is all handled automatically on OS X.

If you cannot see plug-ins in Logic, check if your plug-ins are valided in the Plug-In Manager (Logic => Preferences => Plug-in Manager).

  • Thank you for your answer.

I simply had to open and close Logic a couple of times. Then suddenly it loaded the AU-Instrument automatically ;)

  • Hi Paul, I realize this post is 5 years old now, but I am having the same problem as the other user: I can open the Vienna Imperial Player as a stand-alone instrument, but I cannot locate it within Logic. I checked the folder you mentioned: /Library/VST/Plug-Ins and I see multiple sub-folders, including Components, HAL, MAS, RemoteInput, VST, VST2, and VST3. I see that most of my VSL products are listed either in the VST folder or the VST3 folder. The file Vienna_Imperial.vst is listed in the VST folder. However, it is simply not showing up in Logic. I went to the Logic plug-in manager, and I do not see it listed there, either. Do I have to use the Imperial Player for the Bosendorfer samples, or can I use Vienna Instruments Pro 2? Thank you! Tim

  • Hi tburg1,

Did you clear your Audio Unit cache already?

    1. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
    2. Type ~/Library/Caches in the "Go to the folder" field.
    3. Press the Go button. Remove the "com.apple.audiounits.cache" file. Remove the ~/Library/Caches/AudioUnitCache folder.

    Hope that helps!

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you for the response. That folder and that file do not exist on my computer. I searched different ways for them and using different versions of the names. I do have a /Library/Caches folder, but the only sub-folders in there that are relevant are com.apple.cloudkit are com.apple.iconservices.store. I do have a /Library/Apple folder, as well as a Library/ApplicationSupport folder, and a /Library/Audio folder, but no relevant files in them that I can discern. I do have Catalina installed, if that matters.

    Thank you,

    Tim

  • Hi Paul,

I ended up uninstalling the Vienna Imperial Player, and deleting any files relating to Vienna Imperial from my computer, and then downloading fresh copies of everything--the player and the samples (all gigabytes), then reinstalled everything, then restarting my computer. That worked! I have no idea WHY it worked or HOW it worked, but at least now I can find and open up Vienna Imperial within Logic.

    Thanks,

    Tim
