  • [SOLVED] VEP: PC server not recognized

I'm having a problem using VEP as an effects rack.

I have a Mac and PC, both of which have VEP servers, so I'm not sure which to call slave and master.  My DAW (DP) is on the Mac.  My big libraries (Kontakt, PLAY, etc.) are housed on the PC, and I connect to it using VEP.  I also use VEP for running CPU intensive instruments (Superior Drummer or Omnisphere, for ex.) on my Mac.   It's all worked very well up until now.

I got a free plugin which can run only on my PC (Mac OS doesn't meet sys. requirements).  So what I'd like to do is use an instrument on my Mac -- Superior Drummer in this case -- and send its audio to the PC through VEP to be processed by the fx plugin on that machine.  Shouldn't I be able to do this?

What happens when I try to do this is that the VEP Audio Input Plug-in on my Mac recognizes only the Mac VEP server interface; the PC server does not appear even though I've opened up the VEP server on the PC.

    Am I doing something wrong?

    Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

  • Well, I ended up finding a solution to this problem almost immediately after I posted about it.

The VEP handbook says to make sure a connection to a VEP server already exists before opening up an audio input plug-in.  Good idea to heed those words.  I opened up a connection to the VEP server on my PC by just adding a VEP instance in my DAW.  Then when I opened up an audio input plug-in, it recognized both the PC and the MAC servers.
