  • How do the 100 Special Edition and Volume 1 compare? Do I need both?

I bought the Special Edition Vol. 1 in 2008 and it is installed, I believe, in a 100 SpecialEdition folder with 57.51 Gb. I just downloaded SE_Vol-1_Strings_v01, Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion and installed them into their separate folders. Do I need ALL of these folders? Are the SE folders in addition to the 100 SpecialEdition? Or are they replacements and I can erase the entier 100 SpecialEdition folder?

I presume the 100 Special Edition does NOT include what you now sell as Special Edition Volume 1 Plus?

I have to add that it is all rather complex and the rescanning of directories during the installation of the SE packages is taking HOURS!

    But thanks in any case

  • Hello agrr,

The Special Edition DVD Collections installed both Volume 1&2 (previously called Strandard&Extended Library).
If you just need Volume 1 and have downloaded the files already, you can delete the 100 Special Edition folder with the old data.

  • Thanks, Paul.

I am not quite sure how to interpret your answer - of course I am delighted if I already DO have BOTH Volume 1 AND Volume 2 in my 100 Special Edition folder and see no reason why I should voluntarily get rid of Volume 2. Unless, of course, you would wish me to buy it again...

But are the instruments in the 100 Special Edition folder from 2008 equal to the ones in SE_Vol. 1 from 2013, or are the newer ones any different?

And what is the position with the Plus instruments, please? Are they included in my 100 Special Edition?

    It IS complex...

    Kind regards from London

    Hi agrr,

Sorry that you found my answer unclear.

    Here is your situation:

    - You have a license for the Special Edition Volume 1 (and Vienna Ensemble PRO / Epic Orchestra).

    - As you installed from DVD, the SAMPLE CONTENT of SE Vol 2 was installed on your hard-drive, so that you can test it with the demo license that used to be on each ViennaKey).

    - You have now downloaded the latest SE Vol 1 Sample Content (which is all you have a license for).

The Special Edition PLUS is another product. Here is an overview of all Special Editions.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hello Paul,

I tried clarifying the VSL SE updates with you earlier on and thank you for your replies.

Much to my surprise, I now find that some of the sounds I have been using happily over the years suddenly no longer work - Konzerthaus Organ, Chamber Strings, Appassionata Strings, etc.Is this a result of our email exchanges by any chance?

    Kind regards and thanks

    Hello again,

The instruments you mention are all part of Special Edition Volume 2.
You probably still had access to those with the free demo license we used to have on each ViennaKey (as they were installed with SE Vol 1 when installed from DVD back then).

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

I recently upgraded my system to full SSD but because of the cost I have a little less capacity than I used to and since I've bought more VSL libraries recently I was looking around for ways to save space. I too bought the SE Standard on DVD, so given that I haven't used things that would have been in the SE Extended, can you confirm that I can download the SE files from my download area, delete the "100 SpecialEdition" folder and then presumably rescan? I know this is what you appear to be saying, but if I've somehow misunderstood then it will take me a while to put things back together again!

  • Hello Angelus,

    You understood correctly!

Actually, you don´t even need to rescan. Download and install (the files will be added to the Directory Manager automatically).

You will be fine. And whenever you need the Special Edition Volume 2 (previously "Extended Library"), you can add it.

    Best,
    Paul
