  • concertino for clarinet and strings

    Hi,

I've recently come back to VSL after several years of no simulations. I'm pretty pleased with this one, done entirely with VSL sounds. It's my new concertino for clarinet and strings, about 12 minutes long. :-)

Any chance it could get put up on the site here as one of the demos?

    Hope you like it,

    Alan Belkin

  • Hi Alan,

This is a most delightful concertino. Sublime clarinet and good orchestra. I have only one small remark. (I may be wrong) I listened to it with my headphones and I constantly had the impression that most of the sound came from the left. The right was present, but with a lower intensity. Have you checked your balance or the orchestral settings spread over the room? My headphones (and ears) are all right, so it could be the recording or the balance.

Congrats with the piece, I enjoyed it enormously!

  • First of all, I'm really glad you liked the piece.  :-)

As to the levels, that's odd. At the moment I have the mp3 file (stereo) open in front of me and the two graphs are almost identical. When I tried listening with headphones, and the clarinet was a BIT more on the RIGHT, but not a lot.  I also listened to the original WAV file, and it seems normal to me.

    ??? (puzzled)

  • It sounds quite balanced from here.
And how beautiful it is to listen to!

  • Hi Alan,

congratulations on this - your other works. I enjoyed it and a number of the other works on your website. It may take a while to get through it all however so I wish you good luck and thank you for making these available. If it's ok to mention it, I particularly enjoyed the open letter on your website to aspiring composers. So much truth and wisdom in there.

    Regards,

              Tom

  • I'm glad that you enjoyed the music. :-)

That letter was written because I get a lot of questions from young composers via my website. :-)
