  • Multiport or Standard advice for Orchestral Setup w/4 Slaves

    Hello,

I was wondering if the collective hive mind could help advise me. I'm using Logic 10.1 on a mac as my master machine and have VE Pro 5 running on 4 slave PC's that each have a different orchestral section on them. All the libraries are EastWest Hollywood series, the slave computers have lots of RAM, strong processors and are running off SSD's.

My question is that although I've read about the pros and cons of using the differnet mehthods of VE Pro implementation, I was looking for opinions from those who have far more experience with VE Pro in the best way to setup my new rig.

I am using Multi-timbrle instances of PLAY and I would like each slave machine to send 2 Stereo - tracks back into Logic. Once the template and machine is setup, I don't envisage actually touching the setup of the slaves and probably will decouple all instances.

The only CC messages I will be using on each instance will be CC 1, 7 and 11. Automation would be handy but in no way essential for the individual tracks within the Multitimbrle instance of PLAY.

So...given all of the above, do you think using the Multiport template is preferable to a standard setup and if so, what would the advantages give me? At the moment, I have quite a lot of VE PRO instances on each slave's server as I am filling out the multitimbrle PLAY with 16 instruments on 16 midi channels? One slave has over 26 instances on VE PRO (no idea if this is normal) meaning each time i hit the 16 channel limit of PLAY, I open a new instance on VE PRO and as this is Orchestral-based, the amount of sounds required is huge.

Any help would be much appreciate.

    Joe
