  • VE Pro not starting in Windows 8.1

    Hey everyone,

couldn't find anything on this topic specifically in the forum, feel free to move the post to the right category...
I'm quite new to Vienna Ensemble Pro, been uning it happily on one machine (OSX 10.10.2), running most Instruments on VE Pro, routing them to Pro Tools 11.

I recently set up my "old" PC (intel core i7 2600k, 3,4 ghz) to use it as a slave. It runs windows 8.1 pro.
I installed all I wanted to use, most VIs, Sample Libraries, and VE Pro. I tested the system, the network. established a network connection. All worked. Then I let it be for a while, since I was busy with projects.
When I wanted to start working with the new setup, I suddenly couldn't open VE Pro anymore. It shows as running in the task manager. but it's not open. All the other programs work (VIs in standalone etc). I checked online for help, checked all the administrator-rights. Did the updates, system restore. etc etc. Now I'm stuck. It took a while installing all the software. You can imagine that I'm trying to avoid installing everything again.

Any help, hint is greatly appreciated!

     Regards,
    Carlos

    Hi Carlos,

Did you install the latest version of VE PRO 5? There was a bug with the stand-alone version of VE PRO 5 not too long ago.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hey Paul,

thanks for the answer. Yeah, I tried the newest version. though I'm pretty shure windows didn't remove all the files when I uninstalled VE Pro. Can I remove files manually, or with a cleaner tool? (I'm not very familiar with windows anymore, ie. registry entries, hidden files...)

     thanks again!
    c

  • Hi,

You don´t need to erase any additional files.

Are you starting VE PRO Standalone or VE PRO Server?
Does this also happen after a restart?
Please confirm that you are using VE PRO 5.4.13471 and not any previous version (just to be safe).

    Best,
    Paul

  • Paul, you were right. The version was actually a previous one, though i did have the installer in my downloads folder. interesting... i'll try out some more and let you know if it worked.

    cheers, c

  • Hi Paul,

no luck I'm afraid. I noticed I had the vst (.dll) files installed in multiple folders, as i had not organized it well in the beginning. But still the same problem occurs: I click on the program, nothing happens, but the app shows active in the task manager. Maybe I could explain the problem in more detail to tech support?
      thanks, carlos

  • Hello Carlos,

Which application are you actually starting? Yes, you can always send me some screenshots to support@vsl.co.at, that will give me more information. Please take a screenshot of every step, especially how you start VE PRO.

    Best,
    Paul
