  • Transferring VSL to a new computer

How do I move VSL Special Edition 1 & Special Edition 1 PLUS from my old MacPro 2x3 GHz QuadCore -14 GB RAM running Mac OSX 10.6.8 to my new MacPro 3.2GHz QuadCore - 16 GB RAM running OSX 10.10.3? I sure would appreciate a step-by-step procedure from a knowledgeable source.

The Activation Codes I received for the old computer will not work for the new one, which I understand, since VSL sounds are only permitted on one computer. How do I get new Activation Codes? What's the procedure for removing VSL files from the old computer?

    1. Plug in dongle
    2. Install the latest eLicenser and VSL software
    3. Copy sample content to the new drive
    4. Run Directory Manager
    5. Done

  • I appreciate your help.

eLicenser wouldn't let me install, stating my Activation Codes have already been used (in the old computer). No progress after that point.

It's troublesome not knowing how to be able to transfer/download sounds from old OSX 10.6.8 to the new computer running 10.10.3. Still hoping for assistance.

  • You need to plug the dongle in and install the latest eLicenser software. This has nothing to do with activation codes. I suggest that you post exactly what you tried in as much detail as possible, including versions of software you were attempting to install, so that we can see where the problem lies. I've done this many, many time on various different systems, so I know it works. We just need to find out what the problem is on your system. I'm sure it is an easy fix.

  • Thanks, DG.

I plugged in the dongle and installed the latest eLicenser & used the latest Download Manager for Mac OS.

I logged in to VSL's website, went to MyVSL and downloaded Special Edition 1 & 1Plus (registered 2009), as well as numerous individual sounds I have acquired since 2010. All installations were successful. They were installed into the same folder, VI Content in the hard drive.

I opened a new brass trio document in Finale 2014d, went to MIDI/AUDIO > AUDIO UNITS BANKS & EFFECTS > selected ARIA PLAYER, clicked on the pencil icon to select Vienna Instruments, but it did not/does not show up to select. The files are in but not automatically activated or showing in Finale. Am I closer to being in action again? Your advice to run Directory Manager is problematic in that I can't find the DM to run it. Please advise. Thanks.

Can't install any Library updates. Message comes up indicating I'm not able to open them with anything.

  • OK, from what you've said, you haven't installed the Vienna Instruments player.

  • I'm looking for it but can't find Vienna Instruments Player.

  • Aha! I overlooked this step. Vienna Instruments shows up under Audio Units Banks & Effects now, but I don't get a list of the Spec. Edition instruments, nor the individual instruments I have, and I can't find them. There was a list of my instrument choices on the old computer which was running OSX 10.6.8. Have attached what I get on the new computer. Have labelled the instruments for a brass trio, but no list to choose from and no sound with VE. When I change the sounds back to Garritan I can select instruments and hear playback.

I have all my sounds in a folder labelled VI Content in the hard drive. Should they be located differently? Is this a reason that there are no visible instrument lists?

Sure am a lot closer to normal operation with your generous assistance and expertise.

  • Now is the time to run Directory Manager. From what I remember it is installed along with the VSL software, so it should be available now.

    DG

  • Thanks. I ran Directory Manager and for a brass trio I see green at the left indicating a signal, but there's no sound with VE. Still can't find an instrument list. Here's what shows up:

OK, I think you need to contact support@vsl.co.at because I've never had any of these problems. For me, as long as all software is up-to-date, the dongle, containing all the licences is plugged in and the path for all the Collections has been set in Directory Manager, everything turns up as expected in the player. I'm afraid that I can't help any more. If I've even helped at all.  😔

  • You have taken me through numerous steps to make things work and have now provided info as to where to get official support which I could not find. I appreciate your efforts and time to help 'put things back on the road'. I'm sure my VIs will be fuctional again much sooner than later.  just hope I'm able to help someone in the future as you have now. Thank you. I

  • Hello saveltaja!

Maybe you have just missed one step. Please open the Directory Manager. Then drag the folder with your library content (.dat files) onto the opened Directory Manager. After that you should be able to load the content.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • You're right Andi. Thank you! Looks like all is working perfectly. Time to buy Special Edition 2 Bundle before the day is done. Thank you!

Can anyone tell me how to network your StudioLive mixer to your computer? Also tell me how to save your Scenes and Presets to your computer?

  • Just an unsolicited note: I keep my libraries on an external drive. In addition to speeding sample reading, this allows for a quicker transferral between different computers.

I'm planning to copying all my libraries from a massive 3.5" disk, to a small, portable 2.5" one, to be used together with my MacBook. At that point, with the libraries on both disks, unplugging and plugging the Vienna Key should be the only thing to do.
