  • Maintaining PC/MAC Cross-Platform Compatibility Using VE PRO as plugin host

    Hi all,

We are using Vienna Pro Ensemble to do orchestration, using a combination of different DAWs. We have purchased VE not only for its remote hosting capabilities (and awesomeness!) but aloso to maintain a cross-platform workflow. Our current setup is:

    Studio 1:

    • PC with Win 8 running
    • Pro Tools with
    • VE Pro hosting
    • Vienna and Kontakt instances using
    • VST plugins

    Studio 2:

    • Mac with OSX running
    • Pro Tool with
    • VE Pro hosting
    • Vienna and Kontakt instances using
    • AU plugins

What is currently happening is, if we develop an iFrame or mFrame template on the PC system and try to open it in the Mac environment, we get all sorts of problems, the first being that of "can't find the plugin" of course - because VST are not (officially) compatible on a mac. We also have the issue of different file structures, so even if I load in a VIenna (or Kontakt) Instrument from the PC environment, the file paths are different.

Does anyone know simple work-arounds for these issues? Am I doing something wrong? Am I the only one using VEP on two different systems? :)

How can one easily maintain cross-platform compatibility using this workflow?

    Any advice apprciated - Thanks!

    T

  • Hi,

I'm using both Mac and PC as well. Mac uses AU and PC uses VST so it seems there isn't a workaround. I'd love to know if anyone has a solution though!

  • With VSL plugs theoretically you should be OK. With 3rd party plugs, you won't.

Workaround is to make sure that your computers all have the same OS. Not what you wanted to hear, I know.
