  • Still trying to set up Orchestral Template without pops and crackles :/

    Hi Guys,

Been trying to get this thing going just how I want it for nearly a year now!

What I'm wondering is, what is the BEST situation for running about 60-70 separate samples from both Kontakt and East West? I feel like I've tried EVERY kind of possible streaming/buffer setting, I've tried having separate instances of PLAY or KONTAKT for each sample, and I've tried having separat instances of VE Pro for every sample as well, but still I just can't get all my sounds to load without popping, clicking, dropping notes, stuck notes, all that stuff. So I'm going to explain everyting I'm doing to try to FINALLY get to the bottom of this, it's driving me NUTS trying to get this finally working!

SOFTWARE: Here's what I'm trying to run:
I have Kontakt and Play in SEPARATE VE Pro instances as I've heard that's best, and as mentioned I've tried loading several instruments in a single instance of Kontakt/Play to save RAM, but I've also tried multiple instances of VE Pro which I've heard can spread the samples through the cores better - true? :S Anyway I'm trying to run:

    - 13 tracks of EW Hollywood Gold Winds
    - 8 tracks of Cinebrarass (Kontakt)
    - 14 tracks of EW Hollywood Gold Brass
    - 16 Tracks of EW Orchestra Gold (mainly for percussion, these are not very RAM intensive I believe)
    - 16 Tracks of LA Scoring Strings and Symphobia (Kontakt).

And I'm running it all into LogicX - I've tried using Multi-Timbral instruemtns to save RAM, and I've aslo tried multiple instances of VE Pro, as explained.

The thing is, everything works pretty much fine UNTIL I start writing for the EW Hollywood Gold Winds. I get popping and clicking and stuck notes and all sorts of stuff. They seem to just be so darn RAM intensive.

    HARDWARE:

Main Machine: iMac 2.8Ghz, 16GB RAM, OSX 10.8.5

Slave Machine: MacPro 2,1. 2x 2.66 Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 32GB RAM OSX 10.6.8, samples streamed via SAMSUNG SSD 1TB EVO (on SATA I though).

Re my Samsung SSD - I found out the hard way that I can't run it in SATA III, my computer is too old to use PCIe slots.

Is the problem simply hardware? I've already upgraded this machine from MacPro 1,1. to MacPro 2,1. It just sux that it works fun UNTIL the Hollywood Winds come into the equation. I thought 32GB of RAM and an 8 core machine, which I now have, would be enough.

What do you think? Have I tried EVERYTING? Is the only solution now to upgrade get again? Are my slave specs really not high enough?

    THANKS for your help!!!

  • Hello

Can you run BlackMagic disk test and analyse your different disk and SSD

  • Thanks.

    I've done that before.

The write and read speeds are about 247Mbps at most. I think that's the most I can get because I can't use PCIe in this Mac Pro (which I found out the hard way).

    Any advice?

  • an if you put your SSD on the Imac ?
