  • Hi Pascal67, Could you be more specific? What do you mean by " right set up". I would say that you need to use a patch , or a preset with the desired articulation. You might want to check other articulation as well: depending on the speed of your piece, sixteenth note could be triggered also by staccato or staccatismo articulations as well. All best, Bogdan

    Hi pascal67

Bogdan is right we can not recommend an articulation without more context.

The sound of the articulation "Détaché Short" goes on for ca. 0.3s. That's why its attack is probably a bit weak for some 16th in a row. If the tempo is enough fast you can try "Staccatos". Or you also can try the "Legato-Articulation" (connect 16th in groups with the legato articulation)...

But this all is probably not a real solution for you...?

Here is a short video (Youtube) with some further possibilities in connection with "using 16th"

  • Hello Beat,

    Thanks for a nice video.

"Collect always some 16th to a group and give the first 16th of the group such an accent (sfz)"

That's great idea. Could you please offer a detail about the group? I think you do not mean just to put in front of each first 16th an sfz articulation and legato in front of others.

Just as in the video... for a 4/4bar with 16th:

¦sfz stac stac stac ¦ sfz stac stac stac ¦ sfz stac stac stac ¦ sfz stac stac stac ¦

    or...

    ¦ sfz leg - leg - leg ¦ sfz - leg - leg - leg ¦ sfz - leg - leg - leg ¦ sfz - leg - leg - leg ¦

    or...

    ¦ sfz - leg - leg - leg ¦ sfz stac stac stac ¦ sfz - leg - leg - leg ¦ sfz stac stac stac ¦

  • Hello Beat

Thanks. I had imagined something behind of it. I'v never done such quick change of articulations but always tinking to avoid monotony in a 16th notes passage. In your Video it sound so natural and sweet. Thanks again.

  • Hello Beat again,

I'v done a test in Logic X and will confess that I couldn't get the result you show in YouTube.

My 16ths sound  quite well in 100 BPM tempo but with 120 BPM ( as yours) they sound too much artificial

As I guess it is because of Cubase you are working with.

  • Hi Gukas

As always I doubled an ensemble library with the solo strings (here violin). So I don't know whther I used "Orchestra + Solo"  or "Chamber + Solo"? And no, the result here does not depend on Logic or Cubase.

Make sure that you remove the cross within VI at "X-Velocity" so that really the velocity of the midi track controls the velocity of the notes. With faster tempos you also can shorten the length of the notes so that they stop a bit earlier to play. The sound tends then more to spiccato so to say.
