  • Two ethernet ports from mobo or a switch??

    Hi Forum!

I am using a three computer set-up (VE PRO 5): 2 slaves and 1 master. On my master PC I have two ethernet ports on the motherboard, so I connect my Slave PC in one port  (RJ45) and my Slave MAC into the second one (Intel Gigabit).

Everything works fine, with having Mac Slave not shown in the list of availible instances sometimes, but I can fix that by disconnecting and reconnecting the ethernet cable.

    So my quiestion is:

Should I get a gigabit switch? Or my set-up is as good as I could have it?

    Thanks!

    Are they fix addreses ?

If yes try DCHP on the Mac, what adresses do you get ?

  • Yeah, they're fixed

With DCHP on my it assign a 169.1.23.2356 or like any 169.x.xx.xxxx IP, so i just manually assigned the 192.168.2.15 address with subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Am I not doing it right or something?

A thing you can try  :

    • Note down the values given in DCHP
    • Set it back to fix adresses
    • key in the DCHP values

Tell me if it is better
