  • VEP5: Fast connection but slow disconnection

Now with the last few latest versions of VEP 5 my mac connects to the PC slave quickly, eg to 20 instances in about 4 seconds. The problem is still that disconnection takes significantly longer. 2-3 seconds per instance. Which can add to quite a lot with a template of 50 instances. This used to be all instant on a much older systems with VEP4(?) I had a couple of years ago.

Reducing the number of audio outputs in the VEP preferences/connection settings makes no difference. I used fixed IP, on a separate network. As mentioned, connection is fast, so I doubt it's a IP issue. The problem persists even when disconnecting from empty instances, with no plugins or VIs loaded. Decoupling / preserving / unpreserving makes no difference.

Incidentally, when connecting to a local instances on the mac, the disconnection is instant. The problem is when disonnecting from the external slave. Would anyone have a solution for this?

  • I have now noticed the following:

Connection and disconnection is fast if all instances are preserved and de-coupled. Disconnection from let's say 30 instances happens in about 2 seconds in total.

Disconnection is slow if there is just one unpreserved instance, amongst many preserved instances. Let's say you have 30 preserved instances and and 1 unpreserved one. It will disconnect slowly from even all the preserved instances, 1.5 sec each, making it a total of 46 seconds. If the unpreserved insatcnes is removed from the session, the total disconnection time is again back to only 2 seconds.

It's the same behaviour on a local host or external slave. Mac or PC.

VSL, could it be sorted that the unpreserved instances down slow down everything else?

  • Hi Dom,

Thanks for the input, we will take a look!
