  • [SOLVED] Pro Tools Unable to Find VEP Server in Slave Computer

     Main Computer:

iMac late 2012 OSX Yosemite 10.10.3

Processor: 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7

    Memory 16GB

    Slave Computer:

    Mac Mini Late 2014

Processor 206 GHz Intel Core i5

    Memory 8GB

Both computers are connected via Ethernet cable and I'm able to control Mac Mini from the main one so the cable works.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem: Unable to find SLAVE ADDRESS from Main Computer, Pro Tools 12.

Slave computer has eLicenser key inserted and Vieanna Ensemble Pro Server 64 and 32 open normally. The main computer doesn't have eLinceser inserted since I plan to run VEP from the slave computer. I open an instrument track and insert VEP but nothing appears in SLAVE ADDRESS or Available Instances. I don't know how to set up the IP Address, if that happens to be the issue. Both computers have the same VEP version installed.  I've read all sorts of posts on this forum but I'm lost. Any suggestions?

    Best,

    Erick

  • Normaly you need the eLicenser key on both computers

    MacBook Pro M3 MAX 128 GB 8TB - 2 x 48" screen --- Logic Pro --- Mir Pro 3D --- Most of the VI libs, a few Synch... libs --- Quite a few Kontakt libs --- CS80 fanatic
  • You don't need an eLicenser on the main if you're only running the VEP plugins to connect to the slave...

erickbolivar1, maybe it's a firewall issue, try turning it off on the slave machine and see if it'll help?

When I launch VE PRO SERVER, without the eLicenser I have a message (see screen shot attached)

  • I don't need the eLicenser Key if I don't run the plugins in the main computer. My colleagues have proven me that. They open the server in the slave computer(s) in which he key is inserted and the VEP in the host software which will connect to the slave computer.

BTW, I've tried turning off the slave computer and resarted it as well. It has to do with the IP address, Network.

    Thanks

    Erick

  • Hi Erick,

    What are your network settings?

You should definitely use static IP addresses, and avoid 169.x.x.x addresses (these are automatically assigned by your computer and tend to change).

    Please try the following:

Manually assign one of these IP addresses to the computers in your setup: 192.168.0.x or 10.0.0.x, and assign a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 (leave the other fields blank), then it should work.

  • I tried the settings suggested in an e-mail support

    Main 10.0.0.1

    Slave 10.0.0.2

    Subnet for both 255.255.255.0

    No luck in connection.

192.168.0.x says is not in the range of addresses supported by the routher address and subnet mask.

When I used the 169.254... ip address in the SLAVE both computers connect bot no Vienna.

The only way to find the VEP IP number is through WIFI, which I know is not desireable. There's a lot of stuttering and slow reaction. As soon as a deactivate WIFI from the Slave computer Vienna loses its connection.  MAIN and SLAVE respectively:

  • Hi Erick,

Just checked our support database - you never answered the last email from November 3rd.

Please do so and my colleague Marnix will help you.

  • My Network Setting:

Main computer IP Address: 10.0.1.1 (as suggested)

    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Slave Computer IP Address: 10.0.1.2 (as suggested)

    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

WIFI in Slave is off. Green botton next to Ethernet with the word Connected. However, computers can't establish connection. I was able to share screen via WIFI but when Slave WIFI was off I lost it. I couln't enter the 198.168.. IP address because it is out of range according to the network setting message.

    Thanks

  • Hello Erick,

I have also replied to your support request by email.

Your settings actually look fine from here (except of course that WiFi is active on both machines...)

Have you by any chance installed network utilities like Little Snitch or any 2c plug-ins? These are actually known to sometimes interfere with VE Pro connections!

And please make sure you have checked "Advertise on local network" in the VE Pro Server Preferences on your slave!

You mention somewhere that a router is involved as well - is it´s IP address part of the same network? (i.e. 10.0.1.x)

Have you tried deactivating all eventual firewalls?

    Best, Marnix

  • There are no firewalls at all in my computers. Turning WIFI off in my main computer also did the trick. I got connection right away.

Thanks to everyone who tried to come up with a solution. I appreciate all of your efforts.

    Best,

    Erick
