  • Feature Request: Huge disappointment..

    Hello,

I'm using a demo key to try out VEP with Sonar. I was astonished to discover that it's impossible to route an output of VEP into the same track of the DAW. For example, when I insert a VEP plugin into a track in DAW and put a bunch of VST effects on that input in VEP and route that into an output of VEP, that output can't be routed back to the same track of DAW. I'm forced to receive a return of that VEP processing as another instrument track in DAW. This muliplies number of tracks and adds confusion.  Did I understand it right that what I want is impossible to do in VEP?

Why can't a VEP VST plugin route the audio into an instance of VEP and then BACK to the same VEP VST plugin? Every VST effect plugin processes audio and sends it back to the same track, like a normal insert. But now VEP. Why?

Also, please confirm that it's impossible to automate any parameters of a VST effect running in VEP, either from a DAW or VEP.

  • You have to understand that VEP is not primarily designed as a VST FX host. Therefore it is designed the way it is.

However, all parameters of your FX are automatable. You just need to assign them.

  • I was able to make automation work via assigning an envelope in a MIDI track to control any parameter in VEP. I clicked LEARN (L) in VEP's Automation Mapping window while dragging a Volume envelope and VEP learned this controller. HOWEVER, I can't change name of that envelope, and it's always called Volume, or whatever standard name there is.  This will be very confusing because I need to know what parameter I'm automation. Do you have any hints on that?

  • Hi stason99,

Automation Mapping lets you use any parameter or MIDI CC source to automate the assigned function (you assign those by learn). Did you try to use a different envelope than volume?

Your feature request for an FX host is also on our to-do list for the next bigger upgrade for VE PRO, which is not scheduled yet.

    Best,
    Paul

    Hi Paul

This is great, while you are at it can you include the support of the NI Komplete Kontrol ?

I have ask  a Komplete Kontrol to father Chrismass  🎁😃

Yes, I tried other controllers via Learn and they all work. However, there's no way to give a custom name to a controller, at least in Sonar. For example, if I need to automate feedback of a Delay plugin, I can't name that controller as such and among other controllers it will be hard to differentiate. I'm glad the VST host feature is being considered by you for a next major update. However, it's sad that we have to wait... and pay more for an update... I was hoping that this would have been implemented already. Perhaps you can give a discount for that major update to the "Author of a New Feature Suggestion" ? :)) I'd appreciate that.

  • Hi stason99,

It´s funny that you think we have not thought of a better way to integrate FX processing.

Renaming controllers in another host is not in our hands, I´m afraid.
