  • Crescendo and decrescendo in special edition?

I wish to buy special edition and se plus but I'm not sure...is there crescendo and decrescendo in special edition of vienna?

  • There are no specific crescendo/decrescendo patches in the Special Edition, however using CC's or the Mod Wheel you can use Velocity X-Fade and/or Expression in the free Vienna Instruments player that comes with the Special Edition to control crescendo/decrescendo behavior.

Crescendo/decrescendo patches are reserved for the standard (that is, not Special Edition) libraries.

Actually Crescendo/decrescendo patches are in the extended libraries but you're right about using the velocity crossfade in conjunction with the expression fader to "fake" them.

I added "not Special Edition" in order to clarify that I was using the word "standard" to distinguish the regular libraries from Special Edition, which was the OP's question.

  • I just drove myself crazy trying to figure some things out because no one seems to be getting this correct or they are leaving out some key words that make things much more clear.  VSL Special Editions (and the special edition addons like Special Edition Volume 1 Plus,, Special Edition Volume 2 Plus) don't have crescendo / diminuendo and never will.  Extended libraries with crescendo / diminuendo do exist .. if you're talking about the VI line, not Special Edition.

Even the Vienna Symphonic Cube Standard Edition (which is all 10 intruments packages in the VI line) with its $2200 price tag doesnt do it.  You have to buy the full version for $4800 before you get crescendo / diminuendo.

Each one of the VI instrument packages (Solo Strings, Chamber Strings I, Orchestral Strings I ETC) come in a standard and extended version on their own as well.  None of the standard versions will crescendo / diminuendo.  Only the VI Extended editions have that ability.

I hope this clears up confusion for anyone who's looking.

    Cheers

  • Hi,

Let me add that Velocity XFade is a great and simple way to control dynamic progressions for all our instruments, and it is available in both Vienna Instruments and Synchron Player.
