Hello,
I recently have gotten my slave computer built, and I got VEP installed all ready to go! Now before this, I have been using VEP to route everything on a single computer. Everything worked great! Now that I have it supplying samples from a second computer, I am getting this strange white noise and slight crackling. I am puzzled as to what is going on as I do not believe it is my hardware. I am using Cubase 8.5 and a Steinburg UR22 Audio Interface with my buffer size being stable anywhere from 128+.
Windows 10, CPU-Intel i7 6700k, MB-Asus z170 Deluxe, 32GB DDR4, Samsung 850 Evo 500GB (OS), 2x WD 1TB HD Raid 1 (Storage). Linksys AC1200+ Router.
Slave: Windows 10, CPU-Xeon 2680, MB-Asus x99 WS-E 3.1, 64GB DDR4, Samsung 850 Evo 500GB (OS), 2x Samsunge 850 Evo 1TB (Samples), WD 1TB HD (Storage).

It seems that setting up my ASIO driver in cubase as externally clocked has done something.

It has not fixed the problem. I have even adjusted the threads being used to twelve, nothing is fixing this gravel sound/static. It worked perfectly fine when on the single computer. It does not matter what my buffer size or sample rate is either.

I am running out of ideas. Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Piano Pete,
What are your network settings on both computers?
You should definitely use static IP addresses, and avoid 169.x.x.x addresses (these are automatically assigned by your computer and tend to change).
Please try the following:
Manually assign one of these IP addresses to the computers in your setup: 192.168.0.x or 10.0.0.x, and assign a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 (leave the other fields blank), then it should work.

I am still getting pops and crackles at all buffersize and sample rate values. Everything is connecting and looks good, I have VEP5 set up with all access through norton so I do not believe something is causing a problem there.

I have tried adjusting the number of threads per instance. On average I have 27, currently using 22, instances of VEP open as a multitimbral instrument. I have tried adjusting the number of threads from 1-12.
There is also a delay being produced after I "stop" playback. I thought it was my reverb puglins, but I found that they are not on at the moment since I do not have that security dongle plugged into the computer.

It has cleaned up some if I make the Samplerate 48kHz, any buffer size although there are still random clicks and fuzzy pops, and changed the number of threads to 22 (Which seems odd cause shouldnt that strain the computer more?)

Do I need to set anything up in VEP5 or CUbase in regards of the external clock setting, or is this all automatic?

Good news and bad news. Good news is that I do not believe the random pops and fuzz are being caused by anything VEP, Cubase, or network related. Bad news is that I am getting random pops when listening to any other audio files or youtube videos. Guess I have some other problem on my hands. Luckily none of these distorations are being translated to any exported WAV files on other computer systems. I might just have to put up with it for now.
