  • Sibelius 8 and windows 10

I've emailed support about this but haven't got an answer yet.    Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I currently own VSL Special edition,  which I had working on my Windows 7 computer.  I am now on Windows 10 and have had a really hard time getting Sibelius to find the Viena Ensemble sound set.  I downloaded the Soundset installer from here:  http://www.vsl.co.at/en/MyDownloads/Notation_Related  but I don’t see the dll file for the soundset and Sibleius is not finding the set, even when I am pointing to the folder I installed the Soundset into.  The only two files that appear there are unins000.dat and unins000.exe.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks,

    Mark

  • Hello Mark!

The VSL Soundset Installer doesn't install any dlls. Please check the following things.
    - Did you install the Vienna Instruments & Vienna Ensemble software?
    https://www.vsl.co.at/en/MyDownloads/Software_Installers
    - If you have installed Vienna Instruments/Vienna Ensemble properly and they do not appear in the list of available devices, you will have to "tell" Sibelius the path where your virtual instruments and effects are located. To do so, go to Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options/Virtual Instruments and Effects Folder and choose the path where you installed the Vienna Ensemble VST plugin (= the path where the file “Vienna Ensemble x64.dll” is located). If you are using Sibelius 32-bit, you will have to add the folder where the 32-bit version of the Vienna Ensemble plugin ("Vienna Ensemble.dll") is installed. Then restart Sibelius.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • I've tried all that many times.  still no luck.  here is a screen shot.

  • I installed the software but do not see "Vienna Ensemble.dll" Which software installs that?

  • When you install the VSL software, it will prompt for a fold for both the 32bit and 64bib versions. You should run the installer again, and make note of the two locations chosen by VSL. You'll need to add that folder in Sibelius's VST setup.

  • Did you mean the whole library?  Reinstall that?

  • I give up,  I just can't get it to work.  I've done everything several times.  I'm out of options.  So,  maybe I need to try other software.  It's a shame VSL has great sounds.  It just seems like now it will not work.   Waste of $$

  • Hello Mark!

If you can't find the file "Vienna Ensemble x64.dll" on your computer, please reinstall the Vienna Instruments & Vienna Ensemble software. It can be found here:
    http://www.vsl.co.at/en/MyDownloads/Software_Installers

During installation take care where you install the 64-bit VST plugins. This folder has to be added to the Sibelius/Play/Setup/Audio Engine Options/Folders menu.

You don't need to reinstall the library content if you have it installed already.

Our tutorial videos might also help with the first steps.

  • Hi Andy,

I finally made some headway!   Man was I getting frustrated.  Sibelius is reading VSL now.  I just uninstalled and reinstalled.  I think the uninstall helped reset everything so the reinstall stuck.  Thanks for your patience.

  • I have the same problem and I also have not gotten any response from Support.  In other words, I run the soundset installer and afterwards the destination directory has just a few uninstall files.  The VSL house style file was not installed and is not visible in Sibelius 8.  Also within Sibelius, the soundset files for Special Edition, Choir, etc. are not present.

    Thx for any help.

  • Hello Cathy!

I'm sorry to read that you didn't get my responses from September 27th, September 28th and October 5th. Please check your Spam folder. Maybe the messages are there.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Andi,

Strange .. there are no messages in my mail, spam, deleted mail ... nowhere.  I received only the original reply for case #226882 on Sept 26.  Perhaps you could re-send the more recent information.

    Thx for helping,

  • Hello Cathy!

As you didn't get the resent mail, it will probably make more sense, if I could send my answer and attachment to a different mail address. So if you also have a different mail account, please send it to support by replying to the one mail you have got from me.

    Best,
    Andi

I'm also having issues with the Sibelius Soundset Installer on Windows 10 with Sibelius 2018.1.  I've installed the latest (and only) soundset download available in the MyVSL section.  It added the "VSL Ensemble Special Edition PLUS.xml" and "VSL Ensemble Special Edition.xml" files in my ProgramData/Avid/Sibelius/Sounds directory.

What was missing appeared to be any way to get the Choir sounds to play correctly and the VSL house style is also missing.

To solve the Choir problem I found an old version of the VE Choir.xml soundset and copied it into the ProgramData/Avid/Sibelius/Sounds directory.  That seemed to work, though I suppose there is a more recent version available?

The outstanding issue is that I have no access to the VSL house style.  It does not appear in the Import House Style list.  Any help would be appreciated on cleaning up/fixing this installation

    Thanks!
    Dave

  • Hello Dave!

I'm not sure what you have downloaded and where from. The sound sets you have mentioned are not provided by us, but are in fact old versions of our sound sets that come with Sibelius. The latest versions of our sound sets and of our House Style get installed to the correct folders automatically, if you run the VSL Soundset Installer. It can be downloaded here:

  • Hi Andi,
The link you referenced is exactly the one that I installed which resulted in the issues that I have.  I installed that extra file to try to get the Special Edition 4 Choirs to work properly.  It enabled the choirs to work but I still don't get the proper articulations which I presume is due to the missing VSL House Style.

In short, the installer didn't work as advertised.  I'm happy to remove the soundset intallation and added VE Choir files and start from scratch, but I'm fairly certain that I'll end up right back where I started.

  • Hello Dave!

I was able to reproduce your problem now. Sibelius changed their version number system which seems not to be compatible with our installer anymore. We will make an update as soon as possible. In the meantime, please reinstall Sibelius 8.x and run the Soundset Installer again. You can then upgrade to Sibelius 2018.1. The sound sets and house style will stay intact after the upgrade.

If you don't have access to Sibelius 8.x anymore, please let me know and I will send you the sound sets and House Style for manual installation.

I'd also like to mention that the VE Choir sound set is made for our Vienna Choir and other voice instrument collections and single instruments. It doesn't work with the Special Edition choir. You will need the sound set "VE Special Edition PLUS".

    Andi

  • Hi Andi,

    That was quick work.  Thanks!

After some quick searching, it doesn't look like I'm able to revert to Sibelius 8.x through the Avid Application Manager, so it appears I will have to install the sound sets and house style manually.  Please send those along with the info on where to put them.  I know where the sound set files are, but haven't yet figured out where the house style files are.

    Thanks again!

    Sincerely,
    Dave

  • Hello Dave!

I have sent you a mail with the requested files.

  • Hi Andi,
Unfortunately, I don't see the email in my inbox or in my spam folder.  Can you resend?

    Thanks,
