  • Bank switch in Sibelius

    Hi All,

I have a wind trio in Sibelius running through VE Pro.  The flute and oboe work fine, but the bassoon always immediately switches from the first bank (performance legato) to the third (articulation combi).  I've been tearing my hair out for hours trying to fix this, but nothing seems to work.

Mostly, I've been playing around in the Playback Devices dialogue, hoping that sending an explicit program change (to zero) will fix it, but nothing works.  I'm also pretty sure I don't have an erroneous keyswitch in my score (then again, I'm not entirely confident I know how keyswitching is supposed to work in Sibelius).

In any event, all I want is for the bassoon to stay on performance legato.  Anyone know where I should be looking to resolve this?

    Thanks!

  • Are you using the Sibelius presets/matrices provided by VSL specifically for use with Sibelius.? In VIPro there are three groupings: patches, matrices and presets. Under presets there is Sibelius folder which will load matrices specifically designed for Sibelius. If you use these presets and have a legato slur over or under the notes in your score then the player should automatically play legato cells only. Best, Andy

  • Andy, you're a genius.  Thank you so much.  I had hooked up everything according to the video on the VSL site, but I must have missed the part about selecting the Sibelius preset (I was just using the normal ones).

I have a large -- and growing -- set of Vienna instruments (and almost never use the SE versions).  I assume that these presets take advantage of my level 2 stuff?  I assume so, just making sure.

    Steve

  • Yes, it was a while before I discovered these specific Sibelius presets, but they work great with the soundsets!  There are different presets for standard library level I and full library level II instruments.

    Best,   Andy
