  • [Fixed] VEP doesn't see slave (Mac)

    Hi,

I'm trying to set up my MBP as a host.

The iMac (Master) is plugged with an ethernet cable directly and the slave is receiving from a Belkin thunderbolt hub's ethernet port. I have tried with the thunderbolt bridge before, samething....

Both machines are set to DHCP with manual address.

Wi-Fi is disabled on the slave but enabled on the master because I need it for internet.

I can connect when i type the address manualy in VEP server interface. But it doesn't see the slave.

I have the latest VEP version on both machines.

    Thanks for any help

    Fred

  • Hey Fred

I just know from experience that if I have Wifi enabled on my mastrer computer there's no chance to kook up the slaves. I don't see them! Right know I have my two slaves connected and one of the is running an update over Wifi. Not a problem. But the master is when connected to the internet!

    Try to disable the master!

    Greetings

    Urs

  • OK, usual tests are:

    1. Switch off WiFi on both computers
    2. Switch off Firewall on both computers
    3. Make sure neither computer is using fixed IP (for now)
    4. Make sure that Little Snitch is not active.

  • Thanks You!

I've follow your steps and It worked after a restart.

I have use this set up before with an older version of VEP and it was working with WIFI enable. I understand the reason they change this behaviour but it should be a preference setting. Because there is no way I can have a wired connection to my router for internet. So i can't have my slave computer and internet at the same time.

  • So now that it works, change one thing at a time to see what the culprit actually was.

    DG

  • Yes, the culprit was clrealy the Wifi. As soon as i turn it on, VEP stops sc

But I've found the solution to my problem and you know where?... in the user's manual;)

I was using the 169.x.x.x adresses. So i follow those steps and it seems to work so far.

"You should use static IP addresses, and avoid 169.x.x.x addresses (these are automatically assigned by your computer and tend to change). A classical stable setup looks like this:

Manually assign one of these IP addresses to the computers in your setup: 192.168.0.x or 10.0.0.x, and assign a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. If you are working with a router, you should add the IP address of the router (e.g., 192.168.0.1). "

    Thanks VSL, Thanks DG
