  • VE Pro Instances And MIR Pro

If I create separate VE Pro instances into, for example, W.Winds, Brass, Percussion, and Strings, can I still place all the instruments on a single MIR Pro venue stage, or does each VE Pro instance require it's own MIR Pro venue stage?

The correct answer would be: It depends! 😊

As long as you want to use the full ("built-in") version of MIR Pro in Vienna Ensemble Pro (... the one that is able to do all the nice stuff automatically, like guessing Instrument Profiles, adding MIR instances to new channels, MIRx preset handling etc.), you will indeed have to use a separate instance of MIR Pro in each frame.

But there's a little-known work-around: If you decide that you can live without all those intelligent features which let MIR "talk" to Vienna Instruments as well as to Vienna Ensemble, you could use the conventional VST/AU plug-in version of MIR Pro. All instances will share one common Venue View then. You will get the same results sound-wise, but this method might need more manual input from your side.

I'll add two screenshots to this message, to make it clear what I'm talking about. 😊

In case you're not familiar with the differences between "full version" and plug-in version, please take a look at the add-on to MIR Pro's manual which covers these topics.

  • Thanks, Dietz, that's clear and helpful.

  • I am seriously thinking of purchasing MIR but when I discovered to my dismay first on my own and then from reading this thread that I can't have separate instances of VE pro all appear on one stage in MIR I am a little disconcerted.  I had initially set up my template following Beat Koffman's suggestions about creating a VE pro for Strings, Winds, Brass, etc. and I am really comfortable working this way, even adding instruments when needed. I was hoping to be able to use the full "built in" version of MIR Pro in Vienna Ensemble for my orchestra template, not be relegated to using the conventional VST/AU plug-in. Is there anyway I can merge all my instances of Vienna Ensemble so I can take advantage of the full, automatic capabilities of MIR and still see all my instruments on one stage?

    Thanks,

    Becky

  • In short: No, not yet. Quite possible that a future update of VE Pro / MIR Pro will offer functionality like that, though.

  • What is the most straightforward way to route a full orchestra through MIR since all the instruments can't be included in just one instance of Vienna Ensemble? Thanks!

  • Well - you _could_ have just one instance of VE Pro in most cases ;-) (unless you use slave computers), but I understand why some people prefer to have seperate VI frames for various reasons.

Like I wrote above: If you have several instances of VE Pro on the same machine and want to see all instruments in one single MIR interface, you can use MIR Pro's plug-in version instead of the one integrated into VE Pro. Alternatively, you can use a dedicated instance of MIR Pro inside each instance of VE Pro.

In case your workflow asks for slave machines, you will either have to take resort to audio inputs into your main VE Pro (the one that hosts MIR Pro), or you get additional licenses of MIR Pro (or MIR Pro 24) for the slaves.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Dietz.  I only have Vienna Ensemble, didn't realize you can do what I want with Ensemble Pro. No wonder I've been confused.

  • Oh - sorry. It wasn't my intention to make things more confusing than they are (... so many possibilities ... 8-) ...).

  • I had the exact question actually - and I spotted this thread which is now about 18 months old -

So I just wondered - has this been updated? Is it possible to share a single MIR session across a range of instance tabs in VEPro6 yet?

  • Hi Richard,

Unfortunately not possible yet, there were too many other tasks on the plate (right now, Synchron Player is in the focus).

Sorry to have no better news.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul .. I have the same question. How about now? Almost a year and a half since the last post ... Any progress in sharing a single MIR session across a range of instance tabs in VEPro6 yet ... or possibly in the new VEP7 when it is released? Thanks, Rich Mercado

  • It would be really useful to have multiple instances meet on the same MIR stage. Is this still not possible with VEP7?

Is everyone using the plugin version to get round this? Duplicating an integrated MIR venue for each instance seems a bit cumbersome.

That's indeed the only way to achieve this ATM, sorry to say so.
