  • VI Pro Feature Request: Receive input on multiple MIDI channels

I love VI Pro, I love the VSL instruments and articulations I own, but I'm greatly disinclined to buy any more libraries. Yet, I would gladly buy all of the VSL libraries if VI Pro gave me the one feature that is sorely lacking — namely, the ability of a single instance of VI Pro to receive input on multiple MIDI channels.

Yes, I know that I can use VE as a multi-timbral instrument, but the amount of clutter and screen real estate involved is just too much baggage for me, and it's overkill. I generally don't need anything that complicated or grandiose. I just want to be able to load different instruments into a single instance of VI Pro and assign them to different MIDI channels—say, bass on MIDI ch.1, cello on ch. 2, viola on ch. 3, and violin on ch.4. In that way I can compose for all four instruments in a single piano roll window, and still use only one track in the Arrange window.

Similarly, a second instance of VI Pro could be used for all woodwinds, with each instrument on its own MIDI channel, a third instance of VI Pro could be used for all brass, a fourth for all percussion...etc. In that way, the user could cover the entire orchestra on four tracks in the arrange window and mixer.

I do not intend in any way to derogate VE/VEPro for their usefulness and power where applicable. But for my workflow purposes, being able to use VI Pro in the way described above would be vastly more efficient...and would encourage me not only to use VI Pro far more than I do now, but would motivate me to buy all of the VSL libraries...and to post glowing reviews recommending that others do the same. In its present crippled single-MIDI-channel form, VI Pro and VSL instruments in general are not something I'm inclined to recommend to others who are used to multi-MIDI-channel functionality, which is a feature that is standard in so many other virtual instruments/players [Kontakt, EastWest Play, IKM Sample Tank...etc.]).

For the record, I'm submitting it as a feature request ONLY, not as a prelude to starting an unresolvable dispute about whether the feature would be useful.
