  • Cubase 8.5 on PC?

    Hi all,

I'm on Cubase 7.5 Pro (PC), Windows 7 Pro, everything else up to date (VEP / VIP etc). I own Cubase 8 Pro, but I have never used it for a project, as I found it was unstable, my templates wouldn't load correctly from V 7.5, and then the new audio engine in Cubase 8 changed from 7.5 to be a problem. Now I am wondering if version 8.5 is better or worth upgrading to? So far I have found V 7.5 to be basically very stable and while not perfect quite efficient for my purposes with using mostly Vienna software.

Just wondering if anyone has any direct experience with this and can help with some advice. The last thing I want to do is make my set up less efficient, less instrument count, higher latency, worse for live playing etc, or less stable (worst of all!).

    Thanks in advance :)

  • I am running Cubase 8.5 Pro on Windows 10, and I have no issues.

Most issues I have run in to are not Cubase per se. They turned out to be drivers for Video or Network cards. Get latest drivers from the maker of your hardware, and not necessarily Windows Update or even your motherboard maker. Example: Asus board had an Intel nic on it. I had all kinds of pops and crackles using VEP...until i went to Intel's website and downloaded their latest driver for the NIC.

Most stability issues, in my experience, are misbehaving drivers and apps...not Cubase. You really have to tune your machine for your hardware. I spent hours doing that on my latest PC build. All worth it. I have no issues at all now.
