  • VEPro with Cubase 8.5

    Hi Guys,

I'm new to VEPro with Cubase 8.5 and was just wondering how you set it up.

So I want to create a different instance for each instruments. So for example for Violins I'll have one patch, and Cellos another. And in each of these instances I want to load up the different articulations as not a fan of using keyswitching. I'd rather use VST Expression in Cubase. First off I was wondering in VEP do you add one plugin of Kontakt in the instance and then add multiple instruments into Kontakt and then just assign different MIDI channels. Or do you use multiple Kontakt plugins each with a single instrument articulation

Then in Cubase how do you manage your tracks. Do you create an instrument track linked to the VEP instance and then additional MIDI tracks routed to the different MIDI channels. That's what I've don so far.

And then do you use group tracks or folder tracks to manage the instruments in the Cubase project?

I'm sure there's many different ways of going about this, but wanted to check what the most popular methods.

Thanks in advance for any info. Feels like a minefield first getting into VEP. But an amazing app.

  • Hi soundbase,

Indeed, there are many ways to do this, but here´s a little feedback from me: I´d definitely use multi-timbral versions of Kontakt, accessing the different articulations on different MIDI tracks (it´s SO much more comfortable with Vienna Instruments!).

I always use Rack Instruments with VE PRO, and folder tracks in the Cubase projects.

I´d suggest to check out what works best for you and your workflow.

    Best,

  • Thanks Paul,

Yeah definitely seems like alot of different ways depending on the workflow.

I'll check into using the Rack instruments, with Folder tracks.

Also, with the Mix balance do you do this in Cubase or in the VEP instances, or with Kontakt in VEP?

  • Hi,

With mixing, it´s the same thing... Your decision.

Personally, I like mixing in VE PRO.
