This baby is in a rough cut right now, and I was hoping to get some feedback from trained ears before I get too deep into the reworking. The brass on this is Sample Modelling, and I've thrown in a few Hollywood Strings here and there, but the rest of it is VSL.

I am not necessarily a "trained ear" but this sounds great to me.
At times your use of percussion sounds like Bernstein's west side story.
some minor comments:
The wood winds around 00:17 coould have more articulation work..perhaps staccato.
The strings sounds around 00:40 are just astoundingly realistic.
The brass writing and rendering are excellent.

I am impressed. It' sounds crystal and clear. I agree with agitato, write a larger piece so we can enjoy of it even more.
What reverb are you using?
