  • Which mac os should I use for best performance?

    Hi,

since I always had problems with my music programs (basically logic and vsl), I´m wondering to which os I should upgrade my mac.

It will be a pure music composing mac, no office software, no mail, just music...

    I´m currently running OS 10.6 on a MacPro 2x2,8GHz Quad-Core mit 16GB RAM.

    Thanks for helping!

  • Hi Felix,

My opinion: If you´re not planning to upgrade your computer, I´d probably stick to OS X 10.6 with this one (8 years is an honorable age for a music computer), for as long as possible.

What kind of problems do you have?

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

thanks for the quick answer. My mac is going to get some ssd drives and probably some more ram.

In case of which kind of upgrades would you recommend a newer os?

    Best Felix

  • Hello Felix,

SSD drives are definitely a good idea.
If you´re planning to get a newer computer (let´s say 2012 and later), I´d upgrade to the latest available OS, to get up to date with everything else.

If you´re staying on your 2008 Mac Pro, you could upgrade to OS X 10.8, but only if you have to.

    Paul

  • Ok. Thanks.

  • Paul hi,

I am really interested in purchasing the VSLMir Pro 24 with the Mystic spaces Room extension. I need to ask you -similar to the concerns you just addressed in this post-thread - My mac is OSX10.6.8 with 4GB ram Intel core duo2 processor- I just want to add reverb to an audio track for 1 solo instrument in the church space (8minute track). Do you think I would be able to install and run the Mir Pro 24 s/w on this mac (as the room s/w requirements are less at: 4GB OSX10.6 [but I5 uProcessor] - for this small (undemanding?) project?

As to buy a new mac is too much right now [..it won't take another s/w upgrade]

P.S. if i buy, do I have to wait for the dongle vienna key (usb?) in the post? How long would it take? - its an emergency!!

    Thanks for the help Paul

    [love the s/w] ))

    Regards, David

  • Hi Ben12,

You could be lucky there, but I´d suggest to get Vienna Suite or Vienna Suite PRO instead, as you get more plug-ins out if.

You need to get a ViennaKey or Steinberg key to store our licenses on (also demo licenses, which you can request at support@vsl.co.at anytime).

  • Paul, hi again.

I really want to use the 2 church spaces in the Mystic Spaces [room package],

So I wanted to specifically buy the VSLMirPro24 host s/w...(?)

I dont want to use the s/w ever for full orchestra work. Just typically one short solo .wav file to process...

Re: your reply that ' I might have a chance' that it will work on my mac...

Is there any way that you can assure me? :) [I do understand that the convolution usually takes a lot of RAM and CPU power] and I see your point in directing me to VSL suite Pro [with a probable more suitable requirement for me <duoCore 2 cpu>]

    my macbook: cpu 2.1Ghz Intel Core2Duo, 4GB ram, OSX10.6.8

I'd buy if you could reassure me that s/w will run on my mac setup as it is, can you help/advise? ...

Thanks a lot Paul, I really appreciate the help and advice.

    Dave. )
