  • VEP6 Latency issue

    Hello.

I have a rather large template that worked fine under VEP5 - it is about 1100 tracks in Logic 10.2.4, with the bulk being hosted on 4 slaves. I have a weird latency issue with VEP6 wherein I hit play or record, and it can take anywhere from 5-10 seconds to actually start playing back or recording. It seems like a delay compensation issue, but I have delay comp off in Logic. There is no latency when I play an instrument, just when I start a sequence. Also, the more VEP instances I add, the longer it seems to get.

    Any ideas?

  • Hi DanielJamesLee,

Not sure what is causing this, but maybe the answers to these questions can help:

Which soundcard latency do you have?Did you try a higher setting yet?
How about the network latency buffer, in the VE PRO plug-ins?
Which OS is used on the slaves?
Do you see any hints on specific plug-ins being used?

Hope we can isolate the problem this way.

    Thanks,
    Paul

I reallly don't think it is the soundcard, but I did try different buffer settings and nothing noticable changed.

I tried different VEP buffers again to no noticeable change.

    Win7 and OS X 10.11.3

I tried to eliminate different plug ins and loading only certain slaves up - nothing seems to change. It seems to be dependant upon how many instances I load up - the more I load, the slower it gets. The problem definitely is VEPro 6 as everything works fine when it isn't loaded up, and when I unload everything, and then just load VEPro6 instances 1 at a time, it slows down incrementally.

Also strange is that when I load up a file, the first playthrough is immediate, but thereafter it lags. Keep in mind this is not a latency issue in the standard sense - the triggering of samples is just fine, but starting a project playing, introduces a delay before the playhead will move - almost like VEPro is cueing up the engines or something.

    Does that make sense?

  • Also, I should add the delay does not start until the instances are connected to the slaves - VEP6 can be loaded up on every channel and the delay does not happen until instances are connected.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the details. We´re looking into this.

  • Greetings, I'm experiencing the exact same playhead latency behavior on my system. 1st playback is responsive, subsequent playbacks are latent, no matter what settings are adjusted.

    Mac Pro 3,1 - OSX 10.9.5 - Logic 10.2.2

    Custom Build, Windows 7, VEP6 6.0.15180

7 16 channel multi-out instances routing to multi-timral Viennas in Logic = circa 1 to 1.5 second delay.

  • Hi,

This will be fixed with the next update, already in the pipeline and expected this week (with A LOT of bug-fixes).

    Thanks for your patience!

  • thanks Paul - I'll check it out ASAP!

  • Did the update work?

  • No - not really. I've heard they are looking into it again.

  • We found an additional cause of delay during start/stop events, related to very large projects and delay-inducing plugins. This has now been corrected, and a fix will be available asap.
