  • Percussion pre purchase question

    Hi.

Can anyone advise me as to whether the Tympani & Snares-Toms libraries have looped rolls within them for the purpose of controlling our own crescendo-decresendo lengths?

I would want to map cc11 or a Breath Controller to them to run from a fader or off of a TEC.

    Thank you!

  • Yes, I regularly use rolls in timpani that are controlled by mod wheel for dynamics.  They are looped.  I think the snare rolls are though I have never done a long one on snare drum!  One thing to keep in mind is that you can instantly switch from velocity crossfade to note-on dynamics or vice versa, to create very realistiic dynamics beyond either individual setting.  I have recently been doing some accented timpani roll crescendos by hitting a single note loud, then within a couple microseconds switching to velocity crossfade on a roll.  Thanks to MIDI protocol the note-on sound continues on the sustain but is then followed by the crescendo via crossfade which sounds exactly like the live performance.   Other similar switches allow for various effects with rolls.

  • William, thanks. And thanks for the technique tip. Coppying it right now!

    Thanks again!
