  • Vienna Ensemble Pro 6 - no sound past instrument 10!

    Hi

I have recently purchased Vienna Ensmble Pro 6 and currently am inserting channels and loading instruments .

However, no instruments will play back after the 10th channel - "Vienna Pro 10" is the name of the channel or "11"  after the Master Bus which is "1.

It's not the fault of the samples/instruments because I can load those in to the earlier channels and they playback fine.

After "Vienna Pro 10" I'm getting activity on the meter but no actual sound - very perplexing.

Is there some setting that means nothing after 10 will play?

This happens both in stand alone mode and in server mode

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Did you use VE Pro 5 successfuly, or is version 6 your first use of VE Pro?

There is no inherent limit to inputs and channels so far as I know, so that's not the problem. There must be something else wrong. Once in awhile I find myself scratching my head about why I'm not getting sound from a particular channel. Just happened this week. But patient investigation of possibilities has always yielded a correctible explanation.

The possibilities are endless. If you're using VI Pro with Velocity X-Fade, check to make sure the slider hasn't accidently been moved to zero. Also, check to make sure the active matrix cell has a loaded patch. Those are the two most common reasons I run into.

I'm getting the same issue in Vienna Ensemble 5 too, alas.

It seems very odd. There is no difference between the channels as I am simply clicking the 'add new Vienna Instruments Pro' button so to Velocity X-Fade is the same for every channel and I'm loading a matrix in that is active - there is a lit keyboard that can be played with triggered by clicking with the mouse.

The correct sound comes out for every channel but as soon as I go past the channel 10 everything looks the same, the lit keyboard presses, the fader moves....but no sound - very mysterious.

I'm sure there must be a straightforward reason for this if it is doing it on both Vienna Ensemble 5 and 6.

I'm using Apollo Quadcore UAD as my soundcard so it can't be a limit on that - and it wouldn't apply since the channels are virtual anyway but even if I change the midi channel number on the channel I still get no sound (it's all see to Omni by default on Vienna Ensemble 5 too so there should be no problem).

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

  • Hi googoo,

Which OS, which version of VE PRO 6 are you using?

  • Hi Paul Thanks for the reply. I am using Windows 7 and installed the latest version of Vienna Ensemble Pro listed on the site under my products Thank you

  • When you say "no sound" can you see any audio activity (as opposed to MIDI) in the VEP GUI?

    DG

  • Hi DG The horizontal fader at the top right of Vienna Ensemble Pro shows activity when I click on the Vienna Instrument Pro keyboard with my mouse - it does this with every channel when I hit the keyboard - but only from channel 10 onwards is there no actual sound coming from the speakers - everything else looks the same on every channel before 10 but with sound. Very odd. I can't see why adding more channels would make the ones after 10 give no actual sound. Is there something different with the channels after a certain number? I would assume they are all the same. Thank you

  • Do the channels from 10 onwards have a different output from VEP back into your sequencer? Are they routed to a master fader in VEP?

  • I had exactly the same problem. I was using Ensemble inside the MIR Pro container. I found only 9 instances would sound. I noticed that although there was reverb on my voices I had not selected a "stage". I did so, and the three silent voices were then audible. I now have close to 16 voices inside the MIR Ensemble container and they are all working well. I'm not running a big computer, just an iMac, and I'm pretty amazed to get so many voices working at once. Hope this might help your problem.
