  • Audio Dropouts in VEPro 6

    Hi Folks,

First of all, I don't know if everybody is as satisfied with VEP 6 as I am, but it is truly a great upgrade. Even if only for the tabbed instances, that alone is a hugely successful feature. It simplifies my workflow immensely.

That being said, I have noticed audio dropouts since the upgrade. The nature of the dropouts is that they completely cut out all audio from a single tab for about 1 to 2 seconds. The dropouts are tab specific, so for example, I have a tab for each section of the orchestra, so the strings might cut out, but not winds and percussion. For this reason and the fact that the problem began with the upgrade from 5-6 that I assume the problem is with Vienna Ensemble Pro. Any insights into the problem? It's almost as if there's a process going on, like an auto-save or something, but it only happens in one project/tab at a time, not the whole server project.

    My setup:

    Window 10 Pro (64-bit)
    Pro Tools 11
    X99 Gaming 5 MB
    6-core i7 processor
    32 gigs of ram
    GTX970 GPU

Using VEP6, VIPro, Vienna brass, woodwinds and harp, Cinematic Studio Strings, Sam True Strike, Altiverb 7, Virtual Sound Stage

At full orchestral capacity (my current template) - 21% CPU usage and 85% memory usage.

Thank you so much in advance.

  • It could be that one of your third party plugins inside VE Pro stops processing during a save or so. VE Pro 6 has auto-save functionality, which can be disabled in its preferences. Also, unless you have Decouple enabled for your connected instances, you may also see the host's auto-save causing havoc (this was actually the reason Decouple was added as a feature in VE Pro).

  • Hi Karel,

I tried a few troubleshooting steps.

First I disabled all third party plugins. These were two: Altiverb 7 and Virtual Sound Stage Pro. The issue remains.
Then I turned off as many processes as I could, reducing my memory usage from 85% to 75%, but the problem persisted.
I also decoupled all tabs, but the problem persisted.

It's interesting, it's only one tab at a time that has the audio dropout. It really seems that there is an automated process that is interupting audio temorarily. Unfortunately, I cannot mix down projects at this time.

Thank for you help so far.

    Kind Regards,
    Bobby
