  • They all have their strenghts and weaknesses. They all have demo verstions, so best to try. You should also include Overture in you list.

Dorico, Notion, Sibelius, StudioOne, Cubase, Staffpad VE Pro, Synchon, VI, Kontakt Win11 x64, 64GB RAM, Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, August Forster 190
  • Cyril, if you can wait a couple of months, I think you should think about Dorico. Whilst it certainly won't be as fully functiong as Sibelius of Finale, it will be streets ahead of Notion, and also has the advantage that it will be pretty fast on Mac, when compared with Sibelius or Finale. It will also work with Expression Maps.

  • Dorico will not be ready soon to suport VSL as the audio engine is not developped yet.

Is there is any Notion users around ?

  • Cyril, the lack of Expression maps doesn't mean that an audio engine is not developed. However, if you want to buy Notion, you would be able to cross-grade to Dorico and actually get it cheaper than if you'd just bought it outright.

  • Hello, I an a Notion User (I have it integrated with Studio One 3) and prefer it to both Finale and Sibelius (And Digital Performer & Logic). It does everything I want to to do and I never...I mean never have problems...the price point is very good as well. Dorico has promise but it seems it will take a couple of versions to get it where it needs to be. I am very happy that the Sibelius Developers that Avid let go are back in business. But I have worked with DAWs (Cubase and Pro Tools) and Notation programs for 25 years and like Notion. It does not have all the bells and whistles that Finale and Sibelius (I do not think I will need a Hand Bell scoring template anytime soon but I did like the ability to spread/paste notes over several staves) have but for scoring it is good. I use two computers joined with Vienna Ensemble Pro and find the Midi Channel/output routing between VEP and Studio One/Notion to be easy and functional. And just to clarify...I started with Finale back in the late 90's and then moved to Sibelius when it cam out. Although I chose to try Notion after Avid bought Sibelius..and after buying a few Sibelius non-upgrades myself..Notion was my notation program. I hope Avid never buys them. Thanks for your time Patrick
