    Best regards,

  • Hi Johannes,

i really like it, it's so magical and beautiful! Also, you are making excellent use of a relatively small layout, and you are using a Cubase built-in reverb. Sincere congrats.

  • Hi Johannes,

I liked the main idea and the way you've played with it. It has subtlety and character, in my opinion, thanks to the used harmony. One point to criticize would be the crescendos in the first 30 seconds. They felt a bit strange to me while I was listening to that part. Can't really pinpoint the exact reason for this, unfortunately. Anyway, really good work, in my opinion.

    Cheers,

    Crusoe.

  • Hi Johannes,

A very 'intriguing' piece, well orchestrated. It sounds really nice!

Allow me to a tip to improve a minor issue. Mainly at the beginning, the flutes seem to have trouble to perform a good legato: there are some overlaps between the notes and that is a bit annoying. You can easily avoid this phenomenon by reducing the attack in the edit window (VI Pro). Try to reduce the attack progressively until these overlaps have disappeared.

As for the rest, everything OK, although I'm not so fond of the string glissandi. In my ears they sound a bit artificial. But that's of course a matter of taste.

Thanks for sharing this loverly magical pice.

  • Hi Francesco!

Thank for your compliments! Yes, I know it鈥檚 a small layout, so I鈥檝e been in possession of these products for over 10 years, but I鈥檝e started using them again for a couple of years now. I鈥檝e decided to save up some money for more products. :)

    Hi crusoe!

I really appreciate it! My main focus is the bigger picture of how the chords are floating and the use of harmony, but I鈥檝e still much to learn about orchestration. :)

    Hi Max!

I know I didn鈥檛 fix all the things you mentioned, and I didn鈥檛 end up entirely satisfied with this one, but your tip about the flutes is something I鈥檝e not forgotten. It鈥檚 in the back of my mind and I鈥檓 going to apply it to my upcoming compositions. Is it wise to make this adjustment as default?

  • Hi Johannes,

I wouldn't set it as default. Not all the instruments have the same reaction or attack respons. In my experience, it's mainly the woodwinds (and sometimes the violin), but it depends on the circumstances (velocity, dynamics). Your ears should judge upon it. After all, a clear attack is important and shouldn't be reduced by default without a reason.
