VE Pro 6 – FX Sends Not Working

I'm trying to set up a basic fx send within a VE Pro instance on my host machine (i.e. not from my sequencer). I create a bus and add a plugin. I then go to my instrument track and click the bus via the send menu – at which point nothing happens. Is this a bug, or am I missing something here?
