  • Vienna Ensemble looses connection with elicenser

During work, one of my slave PCs with Vienna Ensemble pro 6 keeps loosing connection with the elicenser and crashes Cubase on the main computer (Mac pro 2012). I have yet another slave PC and neither this one nor the Mac ever has that problem. I couldn't find anything like it with search ...

Are there any settings in windows 10 to look for? I did the usual stuff, like excluding VEpro from defender, but I don't do alot with windows, so maybe there is another thing to look for. Could the elicenser be damaged? However, it shows the correct licenses with that elicenser program. I don't have any clue, where to start. Any help is very welcome!

  • Hi Fritz,

No special actions required, this sounds like a power problem on the USB ports of your slave PC.

How old is the key? Does it work on other computers? Did you try different USB ports, or a powered hub?

  • Hi Paul!

Thanks for the reply! The key is probably something like 6 - 8 years old. I have tried different USB ports on the slave (by the way: my list of equipment on the bottom here is old). It is an AsRock X99  extreme 6 with quite a lot of ports I don't really need for a slave PC. Now that you say it: I rember that you should turn off the unused USB-Ports in BIOS, so that there will be no power problems. Is that correct and could it help?

I haven't tried the elicenser on other PCs or the mac, since it would take long observation and changes of my setup which I don't have the time for now. I also haven't got an unused powered hub to try. Is there any way to get rid of that problem like I described above or with Windows settings? THis is really destroying my workflow right now, but I need to move on due to a deadline ... :-)

    Best regards,

    Fritz.

  • Hi Fritz,

Sounds like a good idea to switch off the unused USB Ports (I never did that).

    Hope that works.

  • This sounds like a USB selective suspend issue, part of Windows power management that shuts down USB ports to save power.
