  • Exporting Sib midi files to Cubase

    I need some help, please.

When exporting a Sib file as a midi file for input to Cubase, do I select the version that asks if it is going to be played to the same computer or select the option to export to a different computer?

When the file is input to Cubase, do I load the VSL soundset for Cubase?

I have been pulling my hair out trying to get all the options tried, but never successfully. I notice the the midifile uses key switches to change articulations, so I enabled Keyswitches in VE.  VE is responding to most of the Sib imbeded keyswitches, but if I add a D#1 for violin pizz, nothing seens to happen.

    Thanks,

    Mark

  • I am not an expert. Just a hobbyist but I think I know the answer to the keyswitch problem.. I am not home on my music computer, but try this.

In Cubase, middle C is always C4. In the VSL instruments, middle C is not C4 but C3 I think. So try putting the keyswitch at D#2 or D#0. I think that will work.

  • Hello Mark!

When you export a MIDI file with Sibelius and you want to keep the keyswitches and MIDI CC commands from your current playback configuration, choose the option "This MIDI file will be played back using: The current playback device(s)".

Then save your Vienna Ensemble (Pro) project.

In Cubase import the MIDI file, load Vienna Ensemble (Pro), load the project that you have saved and assign the tracks to Vienna Ensemble (Pro).

For imported Sibelius MIDI files, I recommend not using the VST Expression Maps for Cubase, because the keyswitches and MIDI CC commands will get in each others way.

    Middle C Cubase = C3. Middle C VSL = C4.

    Best regards,
    Andi
