  • Vepro Surround Questions

    Hello all,

I am in the throws of designing a very large template including orchestras and other instruments. I use Cubase 8.5. I have purchased VEPRO only a few days ago and am running some trials and tests. I work in Surround 5.1

Before Vepro it has been my habit to set up all tracks as 5.1 and simply load in any stereo VSTs into the Surround track. This lets me use Cubase mixers very powerful surround panner to place the sound where I want and automate if required.

I have been experimenting with loading Vepro instances in Surround format, then loading stereo instruments  into this. I have found that if I then bring the stereo signal to the back of the Vepro Surround Panner, then all that happens is the volume reduces and the sound does not come out of the other speakers - still only the L&R pair. I also note that in Cubase's mixer, on such as Vepro channel, the Cubase surround panner goes missing (there is no stereo panner either). Odd!

If I set up Vepro in stereo then Cubase's Mixer presents its pretty face again, and I can pan away... Cubase's Surround Panner is also more fully featured than Vepro's panner too.

It seems this is the way to design templates then, reserving usuage of Vepro's Surrouind features for 'true' Surround Instruments (e.g. Kontakt in Surround format) .

I should like the opinion of more experienced users on this, as the template I am designing is very large and I would not like top make a newbie mistake.

    thank you
