Broken Vienna KEY and upgrade to VEP 6

Hello everyone, I have one BIG problem so I'll appreciate any suggestion how to solve it.

My ViennaKEY has died, I only had VEP 5 license on it. I want to buy an upgrade to VEP 6 and I wish to buy new elicencer (Vienna key) where I intend to store new license, is this possible? Do I need old broken ViennaKEY for upgrade to VEP 6 or can I just buy new elicencer then buy upgrade to VEP 6 and store new license to new elicencer?

Hi aleksandeus, 

 

I checked your account and saw that you have not used all your VE PRO 4 and VE PRO 4=>5 upgrade licenses, so you could also use those with any new key you purchase. 

 

If the ViennaKey broke within the warranty period without extraneous cause, you'll get the new ViennaKey and the replacement licenses for free. Warranty is two years, please include invoice for the key purchase if the warranty applies. However it seems from our records that your key is older than two years, I'm afraid.

If the warranty period is already over, it might be necessary to purchase a replacement license for EUR 20 per license + a handling fee of EUR 30. In your case, the total would be EUR 30.

 

In short words: To get a replacement license, you will need to send the broken key in, so we can check the kind of error.

What is the life expectancy of the keys? My key is about 10 years old. Should I replace it with a new key?

I have 40 licences on my key. If the key breaks, I have to pay € 830?!

Hi andreas1, 

We know that many users are using ancient keys from 2002 (we know because they have limited capacity for only 7 or 8 licenses), so the keys can work for a long time, when handled with care. 

We always suggest to replace keys every 2 years, as this is the hardware warranty for the keys. 
If your key breaks, the replacement licenses for 40 licenses will be 800 EUR (20 EUR each), that´s correct.

I brought this up before and I think it was Paul who told me, "it was on the to-do list" but that had to have been over a year ago.

You're absolutely right though Transfering one license at a time is really annoying

I hate this crazy setup.

I've been buying 2 new Keys every 2 years simply because I have so many products and licences, it would cost a fortune to replace them.

What I don't understand is this:

The eLicenser software connects to a website to validate each licence. Don't they keep a record of valid licences? Surely we should be able to simply do a software restore onto a new key via an online service? If this is not possible now, then VSL should keep a database and provide such a service, with login and password.

At present I have a drawer full of "old" Keys that probably would all work for another 10 years, but they sit there unused.

What a waste.....

This is all I will add to this discussion: We rely on the possibilities that eLicenser/Steinberg is providing us (and themselves) with, and unfortunately it looks like the transfer of multiple licenses in one go is a feature that will not be implemented 

I know that transferring licenses takes a little time, but on the plus-side, it is a safe and simply procedure.

What is the reason ?

it's not difficult to add a loop in the program !

Can't you do this with an APPLE SCRIPT ?

Is it because VSL does not want to pay Steinberg to develop this function ?

Paul, your users should not have to support the concequences of the protection of your library 

It's look like that nobody have found an insurances company to insure the dongle ? did you find one ?
