  • VEPro 5 vs 6 Performance

Still seeing quite noticable perfromance issues with the latest version of VEPro 6 compare to version 5. If I say just load up three instances of Kontakt (5.5.2) and keep switching between them, there is a long delay before they change from one to the other. Almost a second after clicking on them before changing. This was not noticable at all under VEPRo 5. Also switching between the instances of Kotnakt can cause the program to crash as well (again, does not happen on same system under 5). I tried this now on both Mac Yosemite and El Capitan with pretty much the same results. I was testing the difference between the AU and VST versions of Kontakt at some point and switching between them which caused it to crash, but not sure if this could also be an issue with different versions of the plugin in the same project? I also reported an issue already regarding MIR Pro freezing up at times when switching between plugins. Seems the only way to fix it is by simply undocking the window and then immediately docking it back again. This is still present in the current version and has not been corrected even though I reported it back a few versions ago now. Whatever the issues actually are, they are definitley version 6 related, since 5 works pretty much fine under all circumstance. I've tried every version 6 released so far, but have to go back to 5 every time after testing. This is unfortunate at this point.

Note: My issue has been resolved. Look for thread [SOLVED] Significant CPU Load Issue with VEP 6 and Cubase on Mac OS

Having performance issues as well. Using Cubase on Mac OS X 10.10.5 or MacOS Sierra and Cubase Pro 8.5 or Cubase Pro 9 results in the same issue with VEP 6. The CPU load goes through the roof with version 6.x, which did not happen with version 5.x.

I have a project that connects to three slave computers using VEP. No issues ith VEP 5 and unusable with VEP 6 due to the CPU usage issue.

Still tracking down the source, but at this point it solidly points to VEP 6 as being the culprit.

  • Hi,

GUI Switching: Please activate the option for fast GUI switching in the VE PRO Preferences (takes more CPU power, but the GUIs are snappier.

Regarding performance: Did you try to assign different thread settings in the VE PRO Preferences and see what that does for you?

    Best,

  • I just tried the faster GUI switching option in the preferences of VEPro 6 on a spare drive I was testing it with.
Yes, that does seem to improve things a bit, especially when switching between loaded plugins. However,
I'm not really getting the point of this option. It was't necessary in VEPro 5. And why would any one choose to have
slower GUI switching in the first place. If this is to reduce memory usage, then was this an issue in version 5
which nobody was aware of at the time?

Regarding other bugs such as random crashes when switching plugins and MIR Pro randomly freezing up,
it seems that version 6 is not quite ready for prime time usage as of yet. I understand it's still fairly new, so
I think I will wait a while yet till its more stable and continue using VEPro5 for now. I need to get work done,
and can't afford to test issues with software any longer. Been doing this for too many years now....

  • Hi kmm08,

Fast GUI switching was made an additional option to sav resources in VE PRO 6, simple as that. Many people with fixed templates are not switching between GUIs all the time.

If crashes occur, please send crash reports to support@vsl.co.at, with a short descriptions and ideally the steps to reproduce, and it will be fixed asap.

    Best,
    Paul
